Tanzolymp – International Dance Festival in Berlin

The Opportunity for Dialogue Through Dancing

From the 18th until the 22nd of February, the Tanzolymp International Dance Festival will take place in Berlin. The Tanzolymp is an annual dance festival which features a competition for dancers between 10 and 21 years old. It is a perfect opportunity for people from the dancing world to come together and meet.

Through dancing people can express their emotions and a message can be transferred. It doesn’t matter where you come from, you will understand the message, that’s why dancing is a universal communication tool. People from across the world can connect with each other through dancing and it can results in intercultural dialogue. The motto of the Tanzolymp dance festival is “Dance as a Global Language”. 

During the festival dancers from around the world, will compete against each other. There are 6 different categories: Classical Dance/Neoclassical Dance, Modern Dance/Contemporary Dance, Character Dance/Folk Dance, Jazz, Pop, and Tap Dance. The dancers are students from private and state schools. They will be judged by an independent expert jury. The jury is composed of various people from the dancing, media and cultural scene. The winners will be awarded with valuable prices, such as scholarships for leading international ballet schools, contracts and cash prizes. The Tanzolymp also opens doors for these young dancers as talent scouts will be at the event. Besides the competition, there will also be classes and workshops, that will revolve around the festival’s theme. 

It will be an occasion where dancers from around the globe, will meet each other again in real life, instead of on social media. The organization wants to increase and support the popularity of dancing. They want to promote all these different kind of styles of dancing. Most of the time people only know the very popular styles of dancing, but there is so much more to the dancing world.
