News from Berlin. The members of the constituent assembly have today signed and accepted a new Tunisian constitution into law.

Foreign Minister Steinmeier congratulated the country and added today: “Tunisia has shown the world that it is possible to make real forward progress in democracy, in forming a constitutional state, in ensuring tolerance and civil liberties.”

It is now time to move on with the agreed timetable; to quickly establish a cross-party interim government and to organise elections.

Germany will continue to wish goodwill to Tunisia on its way to a stable and democratic future.
