News from Berlin - The Contra Medienwerkstatt, a registered association and media education institution which was set up to promote and provide teachings on creative cinematographic work, is organising the 22nd International film festival ‘Contravision’ in Berlin. This International Short Film Festival, organised in co-operation with the Spanish Embassy, is the second biggest short film festival in Berlin held annually and dedicates itself to  animations, student films, as well as documentaries or even cartoons. The screened works range from the no-budget film scene and amateurs to commercial productions. The venue of the nine day event and cooperation partner is “Cinema Central” next to Hackescher Markt where the festival takes place from March 28th to April 5th, 2014. They invite all short film fans and enthusiasts to attend the second oldest short film festival of Berlin. Throughout the nine days, 76 films of all genres and originating from 21 different countries will be shown. Viewers can enjoy a broad thematic range with topics covering fields from actual “global crises to war, peace and love to the end of the world “. Audiences will also be able to vote for the winners of the contravision awards in free and secret elections. Newcomers and professionals who take part in the competition  have no genre restrictions but can only display films that do not exceed the time limit of 30 minutes.

This year’s edition will feature different kinds of films than what people usually expect: they form a counterpoint to the Spanish government's handling of the current crisis.
