This Year Anne Frank would have turned 90 years old. In cooperation with hundreds of schools across Germany, the Anne Frank Center in Berlin celebrated Anne Frank Day and prepared free educational materials about life of a world-famous diarist and the Holocaust.

Anne Frank Day is a project of the Anne Frank Center, which takes place every year on the 12th of June on Anne Frank’s birthday. Aim of the Anne Frank Day is to remember the life of a world-famous diarist, teach about Holocaust, and promote action against Anti-Semitism and racism. In 2019, 250 schools, 40,000 young students, and the general public engaged in a nation-wide day of action for a democratic and hate-free society.

The Anne Frank Center in Berlin prepared free learning materials for all participating parties. For Anne Frank's 90th anniversary, the Center decided to focus on her biography. All participating schools received a free poster, the 16-page Anne Frank newspaper and a pedagogical guide. On the basis of Anne Frank’s biography, the students and teachers discussed National Socialism, the Holocaust and anti-Semitism.

Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1929 in a Jewish family. In 1933, they fled to Amsterdam to hide from the National Socialists. After the Nazi invasion and a subsequent occupation of the Netherlands, Anne Frank and her family were in hiding in Amsterdam from 1942 to 1944. While in hideout, Anne Frank wrote her world-famous The Diary of a Young Girl – also known as The Diary of Anne Frank. After the betrayal of her hiding place, Anne Frank and her family were deported. The writer died in 1945 at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp at the age of fifteen. Together with her diary, Anne Frank has become a symbol of millions of Jews who fell victim to Nazi’s racist extermination policies.

Embassy of the Netherlands in Berlin joined the Anne Frank Day to celebrate writer’s 90th anniversary.
