Photography and Religious Diversity in Kosovo

The German Embassy in Kosovo is organizing a photo contest on the topic of religious diversity in Kosovo. Contestants are invited to contribute their photographs to the Embassy by e-mail. The photographs are to be presented on the Embassy’s web page and the photo voted best and most popular is going to be posted as the Embassy’s Facebook profile cover photo.
Cultural diplomacy can be used to encourage peace and stability, and this is the motivation behind the photo competition regarding Kosovo’s religious diversity. In addition to promoting tolerance between religious groups, it is important to emphasize the significance of tolerance between religious and non-religious people. There has already been great progress in this field. According to the International Humanist and Ethical Union report from 2013, Kosovo has been classified as free and equal alongside Belgium, Japan, and the Netherlands. What these countries have in common is that “freedom of religion or belief is upheld and there are no known cases of discrimination against non-religious individuals”, according to the International Humanist and Ethical Union report.
The main goal of the exhibition is to bring closer both cultural and religious heritage of Kosovo, in order to promote its diversity and variety as a valuable characteristic of its population. The deadline for photograph submission is 25th March 2015.
