June 10 is the "Day of Portugal", the national holiday of the Lusitanian country. The community, with the support of the Embassy, will organize events that promote Portuguese culture in the cities of Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Gross-Umstadt.

The "Day of Portugal" commemorates the death of Luis Camoes, the prominent Portuguese poet, which took place on June 10, 1580. His work "Os Luisiadas" is considered the national epic poem and celebrates the creation of the Portuguese colonial empire. This day is very popular in Portugal as well as abroad, where it is regularly celebrated by emigrants.

This year, the Portuguese community in Germany has decided to organize celebrations, which will take place throughout the month of June in the state of Hesse. There will be culinary festivals, fun and interactive shows and tourism promotion events. In particular, on June 27 in Frankfurt, the German edition of the Lisbon guide “Ler e Ver Lisboa”, curated by the most important contemporary writers and illustrators of the city, will be released.

Nonetheless, the most awaited event will be the concert of Cuca Roseta, a popular Portuguese singer who specializes in the traditional fado. Roseta will perform at the "Casino Gesellschaft" in Wiesbaden on June 8th.

The celebrations are not only meant for the Portuguese community, but also for many Germans and foreigners, fascinated by the ancient and melancholic Lusitanian culture.
