News from Berlin – This week, German Minister of Economic Affairs, Sigmar Gabriel met the new French Minister of Economic Affairs, Economic Recovery and Information Technology, Arnaud Montebourg in Berlin to discuss economic issues with the main emphasis on topics related to energy and industry policy.

According to Gabriel, Germany is an important industrial site with enterprises with high contributions to growth and prosperity. The importance of industrial production for the economic cycle cannot be underestimated.

Hence, the ministers agreed to guarantee industrial production to have a future in both Germany and France as well as in the European Union. This goal is pursued by maintaining the flexibility of EU member states in energy policy to secure competitive prices of electricity, guaranteeing access to raw materials and finding new initiatives to strengthen research and development and to innovate in industry. As a consequence, affected EU member states will recover from the financial and debt crisis.

Germany produces goods of high quality mainly because of qualified engineers and skilled workers as well as its intense engagement in qualitative research and development in the field of industry. The country is especially strong in the car industry, mechanical and electrical engineering as well as chemistry as one of the leading countries worldwide in terms of quality.
