MFA of Kenya Along with Ethiopian Key Politicians Participate in a Half-Marathon Faire to Reduce Maternal Mortality

Over 200 participants, among others members from MFA of Kenya and PM of Ethiopia, promote cultural diplomacy by joining together to fight infant and maternal mortality

Over 200 participants led by the Cabinet Secretary of Kenya, among others participated in the 2km, 5km, 10km and 21km categories respectively. The Former Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the former First Lady of Ethiopia Madam Romano Tefaye joined the faire; giving this marathon an international flair.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya family joined their First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta for the fifth edition of Beyond Zero marathon at the Nyayo national stadium in Nairobi. The proceeds will go into supporting programs to reduce infant and maternal mortality.

The First Lady, who ran and won the 10 kilometer race was flagged by among others, Hailemariam Desalegne, the Former Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and the former First Lady of Ethiopia Madam Romano Tefaye. Diplomat Monica Juma expressed her pride in the MFA family for coming out in large numbers to support the noble cause.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was the official guest at the award ceremony held inside the stadium while the Deputy President, William Ruto participated in the 21km marathon. The MFA family lived true to the mission of the Beyond Zero campaign: To ensure that all Kenyan mothers deliver safely, their children are born healthy, remain healthy and are HIV free.
