The Embassy of Madagascar in Berlin, represented by H.E Mrs Florence Rafaramalala, responded positively to the invitation of the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mrs. Ine Eriksen Soreide, to the celebration of the Constitution Day, on May 17 in Oslo.

The almost 250-year-old Norwegian Constitution Day Parade has a non-military nature. It is a celebration of family and community, of peace and joy of life.

The Constituent Assembly’s adoption of the Constitution of Norway, the fundamental text governing  the Kingdom of Norway, historically dates back to May 16th, but was signed and came into force on 17 of May 1814.

This year, on May 16, the Minister of Foreign Affairs presented Norway’s foreign policy priorities, including peace and reconciliation, respect for human rights, especially those of women and children, and multilateral cooperation. The Minister for International Development, Mr. Dag-Inge Ulstein, announced the upcoming establishment of a new consultation platform for a better impact of his Ministry’s policy.

The embassy of Madagascar in Berlin represents Madagascan interests not only in Germany, but also in Norway, Austria, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. The cooperation between Norway and Madagascar dates back more than 150 years thanks to intense exchanges between Malagasy and Norwegians in the fields of language and culture. Girls’ education, fight against illicit capital flows and corruption, adaptation to climate change, renewable energy, the blue economy and the environment are also fields of high importance between the two countries.
