The French Cultural Institute in Berlin organizes the “Philosophy Thursdays” to understand democracy in 2019

The “Institut Français”, French Institute for Culture, organizes a series of conferences dedicated to the link between philosophy and modern democracy.
Myriam Revault D’Allonnes, professor emeritus at the École Pratique des Hautes Études and researcher at the Centre de Recherches Politiques de Sciences Po, is a philosopher and a political philosophy specialist. She will be the guest of the “Philosophy Thursday” of April 25th organized by the Institut Français in Berlin.
The conference will address the question of how philosophy can help us understand the state of our liberal democracy in 2019. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it looked like liberal democracy was going to be the answer to all questions, that it would be able to solve all problems. Nowadays, however, liberal democracy seems fragile, incapable of keeping its promises, and threatened by populism. The conference aims to use philosophy to start a debate about this topic: is this a momentary crisis, or is liberal democracy actually declining?
The next event, named "la démocratie face à la post-vérité" (“democracy faced with post-truth”), is part of a cycle of conferences regarding the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall organized by the Institut Français, the Cultural Institute of the French Embassy in Berlin. The conference will be held in French, with a simultaneous translation in German, at 7pm on April 25th.
