The European Union co-financed the three-year campaign called “Enjoy European quality Food’’. On November 28th 2019, a press conference and product tasting were organized at the Restaurant Alma Mia in Berlin in order to promote the European Initiative for Italian Indulgence of the Highest Quality.

Italy is a country rich in history and culture, which can also apply to their view on food and wine. Due to the enormous variety of gastronomic specialties, products from the country have long been widely appreciated by consumers around the world, both for the exclusive taste and quality of the ingredients.

The decision to involve four European countries in addition to Italy was made with the aim of bringing consumers, trade and leaders closer to the world of Italian and European food and wine. This informative campaign will last three years. It will promote first-class products through seminars, tastings, workshops and other promotional initiatives alongside the support of prestigious local partners, such as Chambers of Commerce and communication agencies.

The launching event in Berlin focused on cheese, wine and olive oil, with Denomination of Origin, Geographical Indication and Guaranteed Traditional Specialty. The event was attended by some of the promoters of the project, namely Mr. Stradiotti, representing the Consorzio Tutela Provolone Valpadana DOP, Ms. Battistella, representing the Consorzio Canegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Mr. Ricagno from the Consorzio d’Asti DOCG’, Mr. Leotti, member of the Associazione Produttori Olivicoli Toscani and the manager of the agricultural company La Crocetta, which has been producing oil on its grounds in San Casciano dei Bagni (Tuscany, Siena area), for more than two hundred years.

Food as an expression of the cultural identity of people and their nations and a fundamental element of sustainable development and social cohesion and due to this since the early 2000s the term Culinary Diplomacy has been recognized as a form of cultural diplomacy.
