This summer the Korean Cultural Center in Berlin would like to welcome everyone interested in Korean cinematography to the screening of the film “Mother”, with post-screening discussion. The event takes place on the 26th of July, 2018 in Korean Cultural Center (Leipziger Platz 3) and is free to attend (booking required). The screening starts at 6pm.

An unnamed widow lives alone with her disabled son, selling medicinal herbs in a small town in South Korean countryside. Her only son named Do-joon is very shy, but prone to attack anyone who mocks his intellectual disability. One day, the police discover a murdered high school girl and a golf ball with Do-joon’s name inscribed on it near the crime scene. After the young man is taken into custody and promptly arrested for the murder, the Mother desperately searches for the killer who framed her son.

The mother of the title is played by respected South Korean actress Kim Hye-ja. Her son Do-joon is played by popular actor Won Bin who despite of his good look is well known for his outstanding acting skills. He is also one of the most selective actors in the Korean film industry, he has steered in only five movies to date.

After the screening of “Mother”, the KCC invites all guests to the discussion with a film critic Anke Stemeborg.

The event is organized by the Korean Cultural Center, a non-profit institution aligned with the Government of South Korea that aim to promote Korean culture and facilitate cultural exchanges. The centers are run by the Korean Culture and Information Service and co-operate with Embassies of the Republic of Korea all over the world.
