Minister Müller Discusses Values and Religion with the World Bank

News from Berlin - Tuesday saw Federal Minister Dr. Gerd Müller meeting with the President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, and leading representatives of different religions. The subject of the meeting was values and religion, particularly the importance of religion as a partner for sustainable development. Amongst others the President of the Central Council of Jews, the Chairman of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany, President of aid organization ‘Brot für die Welt’ as well as the President of the foundation ‘Stiftung Weltethos’ participated in the meeting.

Minister Müller highlighted the importance of a value-oriented development policy and hence also the impact religion can have. It can build bridges and motivate people to stand up for their fellow men and their environment. In addition, Minister Müller highlighted the great significance of international institutions like the World Bank and President Kim participating in that debate. This will help to improve intercultural dialogue worldwide, helping common values to become the basis of development cooperation. The Minister also stated the German interest in increasing cooperation with the World Bank in terms of global climate protection and cooperation with Africa. The aim is to establish a salient center of land management in Africa.
