News from Berlin – For twelve years, September the 14th is marked by the Canoe Embassy Cup, where embassies based in Berlin compete with each other to win the title of the best canoeing crew.

This year, thirteen teams participated in the competition: Ankara, Potsdam, Lima, Helsinki, Washington, Paris, the Visegrad Group – Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia – Istanbul, Budapest, Antalya, New York, London and South American Embassies Team. During the day, participants and the audience also had the opportunity to take part in Water Games, political debate “Zwanziger-Canadiern” and other canoe competitions.

The winner of the Cup was the crew from New York, followed by the Visegrad Team with silver and the Budapest Team with bronze – who were included as an additional team.

The success of the idea for the International Canoe Embassy Cup shows again that sport can not only integrate people from different backgrounds but can also become an important means of intercultural communication serving, at the same time, the purpose of promoting and introducing other countries to a broader audience.
