The international film festival begun on 11th of February and as a result Berlin is currently hosting a number of famous actors and screening many films until 21st February. The Berlinale is an international film festival, where unknown directors also have the chance to present their works. The International Forum of New Cinema also known in short as the Berlinale Forum is specifically focused on such films, it is described as the most daring section of the film festival. This year’s program pays attention to African films, mainly those which are produced by Arabian countries. One of the presented films at this years Forum is the documentary from Senegal – “The Revolution will not be Televised” directed by Rama Thiaw. The guests of Berlinale may see it from 18th to 20th February in different cinemas, the film is being promoted by AfricAvenir which is an NGO working in Germany and throughout Europe to promote the African perspective

The documentary is filmed in Senegal, ‘The Revolution will not be Televised’ starts in January 2012 and describes the situation during the Senegalese Presidential Campaign. The Senegalese Constitution was violated during these elections and this caused three friends - Thiat, Kilifeu and Gadiaga, to create the Y’EN A MARRE movement, with some other musicians and journalists. The Y’EN A MARRE movement called for the public to join together and take to the streets to demonstrate against this violation of the Constitution. The movement has gained popularity and momentum through social media. The friends are members of a hip hop group “Keur Gui” and so they used music to help spread their message and garner support. Through music and particularly during the evolution of their ensuing hip-hop album, “Encyclopedia” the group were able to raise many issues.

The film also presents many points of view of issues in Senegal. It reflects the vision of an African urban youth, who try to improve a domestic situation. At the main screening of the film on 17th February, the director, Rama Thiaw along with two of the stars Thiat and Kilifeu will be present.
