Iftar at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Berlin

Promoting inter-faith harmony between Muslims

On 30 of May, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Berlin hosted Iftar for the second consecutive year. Iftar is the evening meal with which Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset.

The event took place in the presence of the Ambassadors of Bangladesh, Maldives and Egypt, with the participation of the Sri Lankan community and representatives from the Sri Lanka Associations in Berlin.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi stressed in his welcoming speech that the ethnic diversity in Sri Lanka is well represented among the Sri Lankan community in Berlin. H.E emphasized that despite the recent tragedy occurred during the Easter Sunday attacks, the Embassy, along with the Sri Lankan community celebrates Iftar in order to promote religious and ethnic harmony.

Moulavi Klich pointed out the importance of maintaining harmony and goodwill among the followers of different religions and how Islam advocates this principle. 

The program was concluded with traditional dinner and prayers.
