On March 19th, a Gastro-Diplomacy Dinner organized by the world-renowned chef Alain Ducasse with Minister Laurent Fabius, French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will take place around the world, and yes, in Germany.

H.E. Amb. Philippe Etienne, French Ambassador to Germany and Mr. Christian Walgenwitz, Director of “Atout France-Allemagne“, presented the event « Goût de France / Good France » during a press conference organized at the French Embassy on the 26th of February 2015. Among the famous chefs, Thierry Gérente and M. Florian Ohlmann will be involved with the preparation of the event, taking place in Berlin with over a hundred VIP guests expected.

Over a 1,000 chefs on all five continents are expected to join the event on the eve of spring. Simultaneously, dinners will be served in participating restaurants to honor the merits of French cuisine, its capacity for innovation, and its values of sharing, enjoying, and respecting the principles of high-quality, environmentally responsible cuisine. In Germany, 12 restaurants have been selected to prepare a gastronomic dinner presenting living and innovative cuisine with a focus on the shared values of respect, pleasure and good food.

The history behind  « Goût de France / Good France » dates back to 1912, when Auguste Escoffier initiated Les Dîners d’Épicure (Epicurean Diners): involving one day and one menu served in cities all around the world to as many guests as possible. In 2015 « Goût de France / Good France » takes the idea further, bringing all categories of restaurants together globally. This international event will mark the first concrete demonstration of French cuisine’s recent listing in the “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” category by UNESCO, and its influence in the world.

The intention of « Goût de France / Good France » is to promote French cuisine and tourism as part of a Nation Branding campaign to promote France abroad. This dinner will benefit France from the international exposure and by sending a strong message to the world about the potential of French gastronomy through dynamic and creative chefs. The event will certainly promote the excellence of contemporary French cuisine enhancing its healthy, innovative and responsible attributes.

More impressively, during the event an international communication plan will be made available to chefs that can take part in the event, in an effort to promote their dishes and their “savoir faire” all over the world. The French Diplomatic Community abroad is very involved in the development and execution of the project, as well as ‘Atout France-Allemagne’ and media partners: France Media Monde, TV5 Monde and JC Decaux.
