Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation Fights Poverty

News from Berlin – Currently, Parliamentary Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development Thomas Silberhorn is attending the First High-Level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation in Mexico City.

As the German representative Silberhorn stated the main goals of Germany in the field development policy. Besides increasing the effectiveness of Germany’s development policy, a sustainable development in partner countries should be achieved. He demanded a better coordination of all players, including Germany’s partners in emerging countries, the economy and civil society.

The First High-Level Meeting is an important step towards the global fight against poverty. More than 1,500 development leaders, including heads of state and government, ministers, parliamentarians and leaders from international organizations, businesses, civil society and foundations join the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as well as OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría. Main focus of the meeting will be on the review of global progress in making development co-operation more effective, agreements on actions to boost the progress and anchoring effective development co-operation in the post-2015 global development agenda.

Additionally, the progress on the last meeting in Busan will be discussed during the 2-days conference. According to Silberhorn, the implementation of the agreements made in Busan is a main requirement to allow global goals to lead to an improvement of living conditions all over the world.
