News from Berlin – On May 19th, the Big Band der Bundeswehr, orchestra of the German army, will play in Montevideo. This event is one of numerous initiatives organized by the German Embassy to promote their culture and intensify relations with Uruguay and Latin America in general.

Founded in 1971, the Big Band is a well known group, often playing on television and going on tours across Europe or other continents like South America. It is composed of over twenty professional musicians under the direction of Christian Weiper. These musicians are also soldiers and dressed in military uniform during performances. The group’s repertoire includes swing and current musical hits and everything in between, alongside visual and pyrotechnic effects as part of a light show.

The band will play in Zitarrosa Concert Hall at 20.00. Entry is free and tickets can be picked up from Zitarrosa Concert Hall or from the German Embassy in Montevideo. For more information, please visit: http://www.bigband-bw.de.
