German Chancellor Angela Merkel meets the future Ukrainian President Poroshenko

News for Berlin -The German government spokesman Steffen Seibert informs that Angela Merkel will receive on June 5th at 7pm the future Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko to have dinner with him at the chancellery in Berlin. The  discussed topics will mainly concern the current evolutions in Ukraine after the elections.

Petro Poroshenko, who was elected the President of Ukraine on 25 May 2014 by capturing over 54% of the vote, has been served the country at different positions for several years, starting as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in 2009.

Nevertheless, the Russian government does recognize and respect the Ukrainian people’s vote. Russia is prepared to negotiate with the new president about the country’s future which at the same time gives an indirect appeal to the UE and the USA not to intervene as a mediator. However, Ukraine intends to open discussions concerning UE integration. Also, the UE and the USA are important partners in terms of military defense and security.

German chancellor Angela Merkel still assures in her speech of June 4th at the Parliament in Berlin to provide the country with protection and company in order to help it entering the international community.

The best way to regain the Ukrainian people’s trust is to provide the country with employment, security and assure human rights and stop violence, corruption. Poroshenko declared that Ukraine is nowadays a free democratic country which wishes to rebuild itself on European values. As before, EU, USA and the G7 do and will not agree on the Russian annexation of Crimea. Russia, however, is a part of the global political stage and needs to be included seriously in negotiations. Poroshenko announced that the country and government are ready to comprise but insists on the fact that Ukraine is now a free and looking towards European integration.
