Departing Sri Lankan Ambassador meets Merkel and Steinmeier

News from Berlin - Ambassador Sarath Kongahage has met the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Angela Merkel, during the annual reception for the diplomatic community in Berlin and informed her about the completion of his tour of duty as Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, he thanked her and Federal Foreign Minister Mr. Frank Walter Steinmeier for the support extended to him for strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador extended the warmest greetings of the President of Sri Lanka Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Minister of External Affais. Prof. G.L. Peiris to the Federal Chancellor and the Federal Foreign Minister.

Federal Chancellor Dr. Merkel and Federal Foreign Minister Mr. Steinmeier thanked the Ambassador for the extensive work done by him to strengthen the relations, especially when the two countries were celebrating the 60th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations.

They wished him all the best for his new assignment as the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in South Africa.
