News from Berlin - Yesterday, Federal Minister Gerd Müller, managing director of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Martin Wansleben and deputy managing director, Dr. Volker Treier met in the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development to discuss future cooperation in political and economic matters. The main emphasis was put on a cooperation based on trust with the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry when promoting private-sector engagement in development.

When investing abroad, businesses have to be aware of their social responsibility. Thus, focus will be laid on initiatives fostering cooperation with partner countries in the field of education. The Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development assists companies in achieving the givengoals. For instance, initiatives such as the “CIM-AHK-Programm” as well as a program of implementing vocational training in Ecuador are supported. The “CIM-AHK-Programm” focuses on furthering the interests of the German economy in developing countries in issues related to development policy. To achieve this, experts are sent to Chambers of Commerce abroad to advise businesses on cooperation possibilities.

The Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry is the parent organization of 80 German Chambers whilst also supporting various Industries with approximately 3.6 million commercial businesses registered as members. The association represents the interests of these businesses in domestic and European political matters.
