In Postbahnhof, alternative concepts of fashion are shown giving new and innovative ideas to design, thanks to the joint action of around 60 artists from more than 20 nations. The main characteristic of the Berlin Alternative Fashion Week is that it provides the opportunity to mix several art expressions creating connections in order to present something new. Indeed one of the most important aspects is that there are no constraints and so it is possible to talk about customizable design. As the Founder & Director Adam Rose says “It is a fashion week that celebrates non-conformity and one which challenges gender roles and restrictive attitudes in order to give everyone the freedom to choose what they want to wear and to explore new identities and possibilities”.

The first section of the BAFW was in September 2015 and now in March the second part is full of shows and events. On the 16th of March the opening party took place at Fritz club. On the 17th was the private event for VIPs and the Press Meet-and-Greet evening. On this occasion at Catalonia Berlin Mitte Hotel the guests had the possibility to meet each other and share ideas and experiences. One of the more colorful events of the BAFW 2016 is the REUSE:IT Show, on the runway models will show innovative dresses that have been up-cycled in order to sensitize the audience to ethical and sustainable themes. The event will start at 7 pm and will take place in Postbahnhof am Ostbahnhof. Last but not the least on the 19th of March there will take place the Alchemy Shows and Designer Market, the other highlights of the BAFW. The first one is the summit of the BAFW and it is the occasion where the designers showcase their collections. The market will include local and international designers, stores, and artists. There, the public can acquire art and clothes and also attend shows and talks. Quoting again Adam Rose: “We believe that fashion should be inclusive, rather than exclusive, and that’s exactly what our fashion week proposes”. Indeed the city of Berlin known for its freedom and alternative thinking is ideal for a pioneering event like BAFW.
