On the 29th of January, the Zwitscher Maschine Gallery in Berlin organized an exhibition with a unique title “Uberdumpsterthreesome “. The event showcased the work of three talented artists, whose projects focused on contemporary art. The authors represent a young generation of creative personalities, who are currently based in Berlin, but find their roots in the former “Eastern bloc”. This fact also influenced their collaboration and contributed to the main idea of the whole exhibition. Namely, Andrea Mikyskova, from the Czech Republic, Tina Kult who comes from Germany and last but not least, the Slovakian artist Josef Pilat.

Andrea who is from the Czech Republic, is a multi-media artist and her work attempts to show the controversial picture profiling on social networks. The German artist, Tina is questioning the gender disparity in our society in her pieces which are exhibited. She is also trying to raise awareness of sexual assaults on women.  At the same time, Josef who comes from Slovakia, focused on the fact, that our society is based on consumer needs and we can buy almost everything, even a “baby in a box”, which was visualized in his painting. The value of his projects was previously acknowledged in the New Europe Talents competition, which is supported by the Central European foundation. Thanks to his project “Ikea- style DIY manuals”, he was the winner in 2014 and was also nominated again this year.

In addition to the three young artists, a guest from Latvia also joined the exhibition. Author Janis Dzirnieks introduced his multimedia video installation, which focused on the exploitation of raw resources from third world countries and their careless usage in developed countries.

This exhibition shows how art connects different cultures and how young artists can get their voices heard, considering the daily challenges that our modern society is facing.

The exhibition of all of the artists is a part of a series of projects under the name “Ekvalizator”.  These projects will support the collaboration of young artists from Berlin and Central Eastern Europe.  All of them will be displayed in the Zwitscher Maschine Gallery, which has been open for two and half years and is situated in Postsdamer Strasse 161.

As already mentioned, this project was supported by the Czech-German Fund for the Future and the Czech center in Berlin. The Czech-German Fund for the Future helps to build bridges between the Czech Republic and Germany. It specifically supports projects, which allow people from both countries to gain a deeper understanding of their diverse culture and history. Since 1998, the Future Fund has supported around 8500 projects, and the exhibition “Uberdumpsterthreesome” is an example of one of these projects.
