The Indian Independence Day is a national holiday commemorating the nation's independence from the British Empire on August 15th 1947. India attained independence following an Independence Movement noted for largely nonviolent resistance led by the Indian National Congress (INC).

According to the Embassy’s website, “India was amongst the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with the Federal Republic of Germany after the Second World War. Relations grew significantly following the end of the Cold War and the reunification of Germany. In the last decade, both economic and political interaction between India and Germany has enhanced. Today, Germany is amongst India's most important partners both bilaterally and in the global context.”

Regular high-level visits from both sides include visits at the highest level, such as Chancellor Merkel’s visit to India in 2007 and again in 2011. Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh visited Germany in years 2006, 2010 and 2013. German President Joachim Gauck paid a State visit to India in February 2014.

Address: Embassy of India, Tiergartenstr. 17, 10785 Berlin
