Former Ambassador of Ukraine in Berlin becomes Foreign Minister

News from Berlin – A former Ambassador to Ukraine in Berlin has become Ukraine’s new Foreign Minister. Former ambassador Pavlo Klimkin is to take up the position Foreign Minister. The parliament in Kiev voted for the 46 year old with a majority of votes and was presented to President Petro Poroschenko.

Pavlo Klimkin is to replace Former Foreign Minister Andrej Deschtschyzja. Klimkin previously lead the negotiation team with Moscow on the implementation of the Organization for Security and Collaboration in Europe (OSZE) peace plan for Eastern Ukraine. Furthermore he since 2008 has led the negotiations with the European Union on an association pact.

Between 2010 and 2012 Klimkin was the vice foreign minister, before he was made an ambassador in Berlin in June 2012. He also worked in the foreign ministry, at the time that it was led by Poroschenko.

Apart from Klimkin the Ukrainian Parliament also named the 49 year old Walerija Gontarewa as the Ukrainian central banks director and the 50 year old Witali Jarema as the general state attorney.
