For the 69th time, the city of Berlin will host the International Film Festival also called the Berlinale, one of the world’s largest public film festivals.

During ten days, screenings will be organized in several cinemas across the city where 400 films of every genre, from feature film to documentary, will be shown. More than films, the festival is a place of exchange for members of the cinema industry and film lovers through debates and public discussions.

Each years famous directors has been put under the spotlight in the Berlinale’s film history program, The Retrospective. For the 2019 edition, the focus is on women in the retrospective event: “Self-determined. Perspectives of women filmmakers” will focus on German female directors such as Helke Sander, Ula Stöckl, and Jutta Brückner.

The French actress Juliette Binoche will be the main guest of this year’s venue and will preside the international jury whose purpose is to award the Golden Bear to one of the movies of “The Competition.” An honorary Golden Bear will also be awarded this year to Charlotte Rampling for her lifetime achievement as an actress.
