News from Berlin - The 59th Eurovision Song Contest kicks off on Saturday 10th May in Copenhagen, however in order to bring the fun of Eurovision to life in Berlin the Embassy of Denmark to Germany will hold a public viewing of the proceedings.

The fun-filled program includes a welcome speech by the Danish Ambassador and then a presentation of the nations by Nina Queer followed by a party with songs featured in the contest until 06:00.

Germany will be represented in the contest by the all female trio group ‘Elaiza’ with the song “Is It Right”.  In the past Germany has only won the contest twice but have been placed second or third place nine times.  Nicole took Germany to their first victory in 1982 with her piece “A Little Peace” and then 30 years later Lena Meyer-Landrut won over Europe to claim victory with her song “Satellite”.

It is known that the voting patterns in the Eurovision Song Contest have been largely based on politics in recent years however it is still a fantastic mechanism of bringing Europe together which is sure to be well received in this era of Euroscepticism and negativity amongst EU citizens.
