Egypt Shines as the Protagonist of Berlin’s FRUIT LOGISTICA

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi Secures Egypt’s Central Role in World Famous Exhibition

Three Weeks post FRUIT LOGISTICA and Egypt’s successful partnership with the German government is still discussed by news outlets and major stakeholders. This February, Egypt was the guest of honour during the three-days long event that took place in the heart of Berlin. The country was chosen to inaugurate the event, in great part thanks to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi efforts to secure the deal as a result of his visit to Germany in 2015.

FRUIT LOGISTICA is a growing occurrence holding the ever increasing number of 2.891 exhibitors, and 70.000 visitors from 130 countries attending the event every year in order to realize their full business potential within the international fresh produce trade. FRUIT LOGISTICA covers every single sector of the fresh produce business and provides a complete picture of the latest innovations, products and services at every link in the international supply chain. It thus offers superb networking and contact opportunities to the key decision-makers in every sector of the industry.

The importance of the partnership with Egypt lies in the fact that it’s participation contributes to increasing the Egyptian State’s revenue of foreign currency to meet the needs of importing foods stuff, in fact, there is a constant increase in the trade exchange volume between Egypt and Germany; as the Egyptian exports to Germany hit € 1.6 billion last year and imports hit € 2.5 billion. The event furthermore offered Egypt a chance to work on the country’s nation branding which has suffered as a consequence of the political turmoil the country has witnessed since 2011. 

90 Egyptian exporting companies were given the opportunity to participate in the event which dedicated to the country, a displaying area of 1.719 meters. Messe Berlin CEO Dr. Christian Göke on why Egypt was chosen as guest of honor claimed that "the history of agriculture in Egypt [which] dates back more than 5,000 years – no other country in the world can look back on such a wealth of experience”.
