News from Berlin – On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the E.ON Scholarship Fund, Minister of State, Maria Böhmer, pays tribute today to the highly successful cultural partnership between Germany and Norway – a partnership expressed in this fund.

German trade and industry has a longstanding tradition of providing funding for research. The scholarship programme for students and researchers under the auspices of E.ON Ruhrgas illustrates the close relationship that exists today between Germany and Norway and the balance of the E.ON scholarship fund; since 1983, approximately 13 million euros worth in support services was awarded to scientific fields, of which more than 1,300 scholars from Norway and Germany have benefited so far. The E.ON Scholarship Fund is a key element in the science and research exchange between the two countries.

The scholarship program of the E.ON fund makes a fundamental contribution to academic relations; Germany and Norway have long known that highly qualified professionals and researchers need to find better and more targeted support when they change professions abroad. The core idea of ​​welcoming culture which was taken on thirty years ago has been brought to life in the E.ON Endowment Fund.

In a globalized world, state-survival is dependent on the continual development and internationalization of the most valuable assets – namely, intelligent research and good training conditions. Competition for talent is crucial when it comes to securing a country’s future; this is manifest in the excellent cooperation between Germany and Norway.
