News from Berlin - Bundestag President, Norbert Lammert, has just returned from his visit to Finland and Great Britain. His visit to Finland took place on this weeks’ Monday, where Lammert was joined by deputies of the German Green-Red parties. The Bundestag President was welcomed by the Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and his close colleagues.

Following his visit to Finland, Lammert continued his journey to London on 9 July, where he, along with a high-ranking delegation of the Bundestag, attended a joint memorial concert of the German-British parliamentary choir. The British attendees were equally high-ranking, among them being many parliamentarians, including the speaker of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.

The concert took place in the venerable Westminster Hall, which is the oldest part of the British parliament in the heart of London, attended by 1200 people. It was organized by the British parliamentary choir and the music community of the German Bundestag. The memorial concert was held in order to commemorate the outbreak of the First World-War and to celebrate the 300-year union of the British crown and the kingdom of Hannover.

The concert was a testament to the inter-parliamentary relations between Britain and Germany and Lammert took his journey as an opportunity to thank Britain and Finland for their trust in Germany.
