Botswana to Commemorate their 49th Year of Independence
Starting Events Leading to the Celebration of the 50th Independence Anniversary Next September

On Tuesday September 29th of, 2015, the Botswana Embassy in Berlin, Germany will be holding a reception from 12:30 - 14:30 in order to commemorate their 49th year of independence. The reception will be particularly significant as it marks the start of a series of commemorative events leading up to its 50th year of independence next September. The Botswana Embassy to Germany, based in Berlin, has been active in its mission since its inception in September 2013 to promote its national interest through enhancing its socio-economic and political relations with Germany.
Formerly known as Bechuanaland, Botswana gained independence from the former British Empire on the 30th September 1960 and was run by its President, Seretse Khama, who was elected three times. Since its independence Botswana has succeeded in achieving one of the highest income capita rates in Africa due to its ability to utilize it natural resources and has sustained consistent democratic elections.
Botswana and Germany have had a long standing prosperous relationship as a result of Germany maintaining its Embassy in Gaborone, Botswana. It formed diplomatic ties in 1974 cooperating in areas such as education, geology and treating HIV/AIDS. Due to the opening of the Botswana Embassy to Germany Botswana looks to advance its opportunities in science, technology, trade and business. The Embassy has participated actively within Germany, this year the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited and it participated in the South African Development Community Ambassadors Group in June in order to advance its economic ambitions.
