News from Berlin - The Ensemble of the Staatsoper unter den Linden (Berlin State Opera) will host the Berlin Festival Days this month from April 11th until the 20th. Due to construction works, the event will take place in the Schiller Theater instead of the original Opera venue.

However international opera stars together with the state orchestra “Staatskapelle Berlin" will combine their forces and turn the Schiller Theater into a special venue that suits classical music just as good as the original one.

The Staatsoper Berlin states: “In 2014, we will once again be bringing you some extraordinary opera and concert events during the Easter Festtage festival: Two musical theatre productions and three concerts with Daniel Barenboim either conducting or at the piano.”

Two 200 year anniversaries are recognized by the opera program, namely those of Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi. The festival will present works from their middle years and bring “Tannhäuser” from Wagner and “Simon Boccanegra” from Verdi to the stage.

The participation of the “Wiener Philharmoniker” will add another international aspect to the festival as they will contribute as a guest orchestra, as well as two great pianists from Buenos Aires, Martha Argerich and Daniel Barenboim are to give a recital of piano duets.

The Festival therefore is a great combination of German traditional music, but also integrates international pieces and artists.
