Bringing together all the beats that one can imagine the Benin International Musical will be displaying their musical ingenuity at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. They mix Vodou, Electric Club sounds, Rock and Afrobeat to perform an ensemble. The event is supported by the embassy of Benin.

The Benin International Musical group B.C.U.C (Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness) is, as one can tell from the image, divers like their style of music. This diversity is as well displayed in their creative combination: a rapper, a singer and a percussionist. However, they are all united in Benin´s capital, Dahomey.

Fighting against colonial ideas and damages the group aims at bringing his story back to life by opening up new perspectives for today’s Beninese scene with polyrhythmic grooves and polyphonic vocals. Their message even goes beyond colonial aspects, it as well addresses societal and political problems currently faced in Benin. Their music is undeniably influenced by Fela Kuti and James Brown.

To experience an authentic mixture of beats Berlin will be welcoming the BCUC group on the 19th of July at Haus der Kulturen der Welt where they will be performing their debut album which was released in 2018.
