The Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin opens its door to the Rencontres Internationales, an international event dedicated to new cinema and media art practices. The German capital is hosting 6 days of screenings, performances, discussions, forum and more all about the contemporary culture of image.

The exhibition is named “Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin. Contemporary moving images” and it takes place from August 20th until August 25th in the heart of Berlin. Anyone is welcome to join it, free of charge. The Rencontres Internationales is a project launched in 1997 and taking place every year alternately in Paris and Berlin which aims to reflect upon the recent practice of media art and filmmaking as well as to foster connection between different artistic forms, artists and audiences. The  programme for the event includes screenings, exhibitions, performances, forum and discussions  of works by internationally recognised artists, curators, researches and art-experts.

The exhibition is organised by the institution of the hosting location in collaboration with a big number of embassies and cultural institutes in Berlin, including representatives of the French, Canadian, Portuguese, Flemish, Swiss, Italian, Spanish, Danish countries and cultures and many more.

The event offers a platform in Europe where artists and all those interested from all around the world can come together, exchange opinions and critically discuss and reflect upon the role of art in the contemporary society, its relation to new medias and technologies and its function within the interconnected, globalized world of today.

The Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin is the prefect hub for an international exhibition of this kind.
The location is a permanent location which presents artistic productions from around the world, with a special focus on non-European cultures and societies. In a time when local and national issues are inextricably linked to international developments, the Haus enables individuals to express themselves through art in all their uniqueness and diversity and to reach an audience. It gives them a productive place in the inner-societal dialogue and enables them to have an impact on the society.

The Rencontres Internationales aims to reach out to a broader and broader audience with a programme accessible to everyone and, by doing so, to develop deep reflections  on our contemporary image culture, a shared cultural feature between peoples and ethnicities all around the world.

Very much attended to this year’s exhibition are artists such as Ariane Michel, María Molina PeirÓ, Julie Murray and many others. Their works, videos and short films thematise a variety of topics and motifs which are transcultural, of every time but also very uptodate. They aim to raise questions about the nature of human beings, their relation to Nature, the current state of the world, new technologies, world conflicts, climate emergency and about the eventual future of humankind. The rich programme scheduled by the organising team will not let the audience get bored.
