Jazz musicians from Berlin and all over the world unite to play at the oldest and one of the most significant festivals in Europe. Jazz music includes the art of discussion, the exchange of ideas, thoughts and concerns between different nations, generations and genders.

The Jazzfest includes two preview events. There will be performances by a total of 16 jazz musicians and five duos, some of them completely new. Many projects presented at Jazzfest Berlin 2016 will be created especially for the festival and will be performed there for the first time.

The central location for Jazzfest Berlin 2016 will once again be the Haus der Berliner Festspiele with its main theatre and the side stage. Further concerts will take place at the A-Trane jazz club, at Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and at Maison de France.

The side stage at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele will be the location for late-night journeys inside the world of jazz, with concerts by the Finnish band Oddarrang, the British-Bahraini trumpeter Yazz Ahmed and Family Hafla, as well as Swiss singer Lucia Cadotsch and her Berlin-based trio.

Amongst the participating jazz musicians and music groups in 2016 are the Globe Unity Orchestra, Jack DeJohnette, Mary Halvorson, Julia Holter, Steve Lehman, Myra Melford, Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman, Wadada Leo Smith, Anna-Lena Schnabel, Mette Henriette, Steve Lehman, Nik Bärtsch, Eve Risser and Achim Kaufmann.

The festival will be broadcasted live by ARD and DeutschlandRadio, and all the concerts will be recorded and broadcasted after the festival. Tickets for JazzFest Berlin are already available.
