“100 Years of the Polish Comic”
A closer look at comics in the Polish Institute of Berlin

The Polish Institute of Berlin is hosting an exhibition about influential Polish comics, whose opening was preceded by a vernissage organized with artists who were drawing and signing their works for the audience. The exhibition will be available for Berlin public until August, 23rd, 2019.
The exhibition presents excerpts of the works of comic artists like Tadeusz Baranowski, Henryk Jerzy Chmielewski, and Sławomir Kiełbus. The excerpts present, at first sight, convey elements of fantasy, history, or science fiction. Their deeper meaning, however, is expanded thanks to a brief introduction to the Polish comics, which are available in the institute. It provides an overview of the development of comics in Poland and the artists who represent it. The public can be informed about the emergence of the Polish comic scene after 1918, how it developed during the Cold War Era, and its significance today. The exhibition can intrigue those who are interested in history and its influence on art. Those interested in literary theory, the development of comics, and the emergence of graphic novels will not leave disappointed neither.
